Well,
I have my Deer skull clean but it still has a smell. Any ideas what I can do do de stink it?

just let it air out in the garage a while. It'll stop stinking in a week or 2, just make sure to boil out the brains!

Did you boil it? If not, boil the hell out of if. The little nose bones will fall off, but they can be put back with some super glue. You also need to get the brain case cleaned out. Once it is boiled and the brain is out, the stink will subside. Whiten the scull by applying peroxide soaked cotton balls to the bone. Wrap them in place, but don't get any peroxide on the antler. Let it sit for a few days. Check it periodically. Be careful with bleach as it can make the bone chalky if soaked too long. Worchestershire sauce can be used to darken the antler. You can also find a mat finish to spray on the scull and antler once they are cleaned, whitened/darkened.

edit... phone likes to change words around

I have always used soft scrub with a little wire brush. But like already stated make sure the brains are all gone and that cavity is clean. Once it dries fro a week. I like to fill that brain cavity with white spray foam. Depending upon how you wish to hang this skull, a plaque with a long drywall screw that will protrude into the skull works quite well. This is where I spray foam the skull, it not only seals the cavity but also holds it on the plaque.

But before I do that I normally use a water base sealer on the skull. Oil base tends to yellow the bone. Or just paint the skull with kilz.

Ahhhh I can't find Borax. Thanks for the help guys.

That's where I went today. Didn't see it.

My local Walmart runs out of it frequently. It has many uses and must be a very popular product.

Thanks guys. I'm using a fish tank heater to soak skill in water and soap to draw out grease. Then try the peroxide treatment :)
