Hey guys,

One of my Buck 442's has some crazy blade play, I was just wondering if any of you were aware of how I could safely remove the pins that go through the pivot.

If there are any other suggestions to fix this problem on this kind of knife I would greatly appreciate it.

Just for reference, here is a picture of the model.

Thank you for your time.

Have you considered sending it back to Buck for repair? It's a Buck so it should have a life time warranty. The only way I know of to disassemble it would involve a drill and a punch, and that would void the warranty. You can find the details on how to send it in, on Bucks website.

Ditto on that, as that's the move I would make.

Thanks for the response, in all honestly I believe that is the most rational response.

I have thought of it, I just have an irrational fear of it getting lost from when I sent my Microtech in for repair with a check and both never arrived there, allegedly, and that was hundreds of dollars. I should just suck it up and send it in.

If it's just side to side blade play, there's no need to disassemble the knife. I believe the tail end is glued together so there's no real benefit to removing the pivot. The technique I've used to remove play on Bucklites is to use 2 pin punches, about the size of the rivet head. Put one punch in a vise and get the assistance of someone to hold the knife pivot on the punch while you hammer the exposed rivet head with the second punch a little at a time, checking for the elimination of play as you go.
