How to display the Collection??

Does anyone have any ideas for ways and methods of displaying a growing collection of knives?

I collect a little of everything but the main knives I collect are custom fixed blades. Currently I have 15-20 knives,..... I think.

I'm trying to find a unique way to display them.

Any ideas?

I display mine the same way I display my firearms....locked away in my bedroom

I hear ya, I'm in a different situation I guess. Not worried about theft or people mishandling them. I'm finishing up a hunting lodge on my property. As a decoration, I have mounted animals I've harvested, Traditional bows I've made and collected and different hunting items displayed. I think knives would be another addition. Just curious about ideas to display them. Should have added this in the original post...... sorry.

If you're not concerned about being able to access them frequently, a wall-mounted shadowbox would work well (balance the knives on nails in the box, or something to that effect). If you need to swap them out, some kind of hinged glass-topped box would make a nice display on a side-table or podium or something.

I'm toying with using a metal backed shadow box and rare earth magnets to hold the knives in place. Just haven't quite come to grips with corrosion under the magnets. Toying with a piece of wax impregnated cloth, maybe even a piece of sentry tuff cloth, or just a good thick film of the new WD-40 film rust preventative. Part of my to do list, but it seems dumb to me that all of my collectables, trinkets, mementos, and prizes are crammed in some drawer or plastic tub. My happiest room of the house is where I've displayed the spoils of my travels.

I also keep a few knives or small pieces displayed on a leather scrap that sits on the bookcase shelf.

Shane, my 13 year old son gets most of my overflow and duplicate knives. My wife had a great idea from a coworker for some of his favorites. He makes these wall hanging cases from pallets and other scrap wood. This is a smaller version as he will make any size for knives and firearms. We had to sneak these knives out for fitting.

I display mine on the wall in shadowboxes. This is an old picture, but you will get an idea.

Also, try to search. This topic is discussed now and than. I saw nice display stand in IKEA.

I would love to build a glass-top coffee table with a locking drawer to display my safe queens and favorites. Maybe this summer...

A chandelier! Combination of a contemporary metal chandelier and the magnetic strips used to hold kitchen knives on a wall. Total class.

Until I had a breakin a couple of months ago I had a nice shadowbox display. I went to a furniture rental company and they had a huge broken framed mirror that went with a bedroom suit. I put in a backing board and a glass front, covered the backing board with cloth then drilled and wired the knives to it. It was heavy as all getout, but looked nice. Now I just keep most of my knives put away and hope I don't get hit by the thieves again. They made off with over 200, closer to 300. I also have nearly a dozen Schrade factory frames groved for slide in glass and a four sided antique knife carosel display. It displays 24 knives and holds the boxes inside.

Here's a case/shadow box I made. I need to find a way to mute the light strips a little though.

Sorry for the crappy pics, but you get the idea.
