How to do an Auction?

A BF member donated a knife to raise some $$$ for the Vampire Gerbil Guardian Angels Fund. I guess I could try and sell it, or is it possible to do an auction with it to raise money?

I've never done either, so I don't really know how this is done and I would appreciate any advice, help, get lost's, whatever.

Thanks,
TJ

Okay, I'm not doing too well on responses for the sell or auction. How about this....

Is it permissble to do a knife RAFFLE in one of the forums? This would be a raffle to raise funds for the VG Guardian Angel Fund. This is not a raffle so that I can buy a new hat.

Since the knife is a custom, could I do a raffle in "Exchange" under Custom Knives? The knife isn't really "for sale" but could I still put the raffle in the Custom Knife For Sale forum?

I need some help here. The VG Fund is going to run out of money in the next 2-3 months. It would really help to be able to raffle off this knife to throw some more much needed $$$$ into the account.

I don't want to post a raffle and then get kicked off BFC or infracted heavily.

Thanks,

TJ

I asked some months ago on a different issue concerning a auction or raffle. it was ix-nay on those ideas-nay.

You could just sell it starting at a too high price then lowering until someone bites.

There is a great deal of hostility to all forms of auctions on Bladeforums, including the form DaveH mentioned. Since Spark has not posted to allow an exception yet ...

The subject of raffles comes up enough that I finally saved a stock response to paste in....

NO!!!!!!

Gambling is regulated, taxed, and prohibited EVERYWHERE in the United States. It is not possible to hold a nationwide raffle without violating ALL kinds of laws.

NO RAFFLES!!!!!!

ANYTHING but a raffle ... anything ... sell your firstborn, that would only violate ONE law....

Yes, sir, Mr. Cougar, Sir. No raffle or auction.

I apologize for asking but I am stupid and unaware. :(

I would just sell it and mention that the proceeds are going for such n such a cause. I don't think that is against any forum rule, but I can be ignorant too.

Judy, I'm saving for vacation right now, but when I get back about the middle of next month, I'll see what kind of shape I'm in to send some more money to the fund.

Thanks, how sweet of you to offer. I am not soliciting for more $$$$ for the VG Fund. This knife was donated to raise some $$$$ for it and that is what I am trying to do.

I think that in the fall we will need to discuss if we want to have another VG Guardian Angels Fund drive......

Enjoy your vacation and spend lots of money.

I get something going on this knife. I have pictures and the technical details. It will see for what it sells for, just like any other knife, I suppose.

Post a for sale thread. . . . .

Subject: XXXXXXXX - proceeds go to the Vampire Gerbil Guardian Angels Fund

Insert knife name (above) where the X's are. In the body of the thread. . . .describe the knife, list the price, identify the payment you are willing to accept, and how you will ship the knife. Make sure your e-mail thingy is turned on.

In the body of the thread. . . .make sure you post. . . .

THIS IS NOT AN AUCTION OR RAFFLE !
:D

Since it's for the Gerbil we can advertise it in the discussion forums. I think there's still an old sticky thread in Blade Discussion ... rather than post in that why don't you start a new thread, though -- I'm afraid if you post in that old thread no one will notice. Start a new thread and I'll stick that one and unstick the old one.

Okie dokie. Thanks, Guys. I have the maker's pics, and all the tech details, and I know what the maker sold it for to the BF member who donated it.

Since it's a "custom" I will list it in the "custom" sell forum, right? Right!

Thanks again.

TJ

(Vampire Gerbil Guardian Angels Fund)

what is that?

What it is - is a very long story......you can read a sticky thread on it in the General Blade Discussion Forum, I think that is where it is.

The Vampire Gerbil is a very nortorious, witty, loveable, demented soul and very beloved member of BF who had a stroke 2-1/2 years ago, 1 week after his wife was killed in a car crash.

You can do a search on his posts from years past to get an idea of the man we all love.

(Vampire Gerbil Guardian Angels Fund)

what is that?

A completely voluntary, yet totally cool, way to help a fine man with a few problems. A fine man with a towering reputation around here. A fine man with an extremely unique sense of humor.

Personally, I'm already saving for a potential (totally voluntary) fall Fund drive.

You betcha it is, OP! Glad you like it. It's purple. :D

It's a Barry Dawson, sheath by Mike Bartol. The sheath has a little clip and it hangs on my small purse/wallet that I carry everywhere. The other Avatar knife, the purple Buck 112, sheath by KVC, goes with me everywhere also, but the sheath was designed so it can bang around in my suitcase sized purse!

Now all you need is a rare, purple-handled Busse Fusion Battle Mistress. Carrying that around, no one would mess with you!:D

Seems to me you have good knife-taste.
