I'm looking for advice on how to dye antler to give it that golden look. I'd like to find out what dyes to use and the method involved.

I think the look you are referring to is burned on with a torch. I have always found this to be an absurd practice. Stag is very much like tree bark. It should be lighter underneath, not orange.

Ask your question over in the makers forum and you'll get lots of answers. Also, do a search for "antlers" in the makers forums. You'll get two basic answers. 1.Leather dye and 2. Potassium promaginate.

Cullpepper dyes stag and bone for $25. a lb.I just had some done and it looks great.Buffs out with red highlites. They put it under a vacuum or high pressure i guess.Gets deep in the material.

Does the KMnO3 dye the antler purple, or does it just oxidize it? I'm just curious.
