Many of us edit out threads and posts all the time, but lately I have had a lot of requests to change things that the user could change himself, so I thought I would let you fellow forumites know how it is done.

Understand, that if I can do it, it must really be easy, as I am no computer geek.

To edit any post-
click the "EDIT POST" at the bottom of the post. This will open the edit window. When done making changes, click "SAVE CHANGES". If you want to make more complex changes, add photos, or use different size letters/fonts/colors, click "GO ADVANCED". That will allow you more options in editing.

To Edit the Thread Title -
Click the "GO ADVANCED" as above. In this mode you can also change the title.

To delete a post -
Sometimes we say things we wish we had not said, or there is a double post, or we are just having a bad day. To remove those posts, just open the edit mode and remove all the words. Type something like "Deleted" , "Thought Better of It", "Never-mind", "Sorry", "Oops, Double Post" , etc. in its place and save the changes.

If you want to lock your thread or move it, there is a tab at the top of the thread that says "Administrative", click this and select the action you want to do to the thread.

The administrative tab may be for moderators only ?

I believe that higher memberships may be able to lock threads they started, but I know unpaid members can't.

AND.... if you realize that you had terrible misconceptions about subjects or proceedures that define you as a maker/collector/user... you can go back and edit your whole history to make it look as if you were right all along. (Just be careful of folks quoting you... those passages are frozen in time.)

"Rick's Tips for Internet Knifemaking Politics"........ you're welcome.

Rick

Of course, Rick's advice is only useful for people who make mistakes (and acknowledge them). Those who bask in the eternal light of perfection (or the eternal bliss of ignorance) need never concern themselves with such matters.

True, brother..... true.

Light?.... Bliss?... I edit my posts atleast 2 times within the first 2-3 minutes... I wish Bliss came with a spellcheck and grammar editor.

Is there a way to edit someone else's post. Namely their avatar photo.
I thought Rick's photo would look better with a pirate hat and maybe one of those cartoon bubbles saying "arrrrgh"

Yes, perhaps the tab is "Thread Tools" for non-Mods. Registered users can't do a lot of things that the upper grades of users can.

I wish there was a way I could tag or flag a thread so it would be easier to come back and find the bugga! Maybe subscribe? I've never look into that feature.

With the site update I lost spell check. Anyone know how to fix it?

Yes, spell check seems gone. I just downloaded Ispell and when ready to check for the (many) spelling errors, I right click the text and select check spelling. That opens the ispell window.

Yup Ispell is still there. Should have though to right click. Thanks.
