Recommendation? How to estimate knife prices?

Hello, I've inherited lots of knives and I have no idea how much they cost. For example I tried to look for the price of a Strider knife and found lots of other models. It seems there is no database with all the issued models. Official web site has only the latest ones. In addition there are Chinese copies and it seems I have to find out how to distinguish them. So, are the a list of all Strider knives for example? That will give me their names or models I suppose?

For example I uploaded some photos here:

You're going to have to do a lot of research. The secondary market is not prix fixe.

This is a good place to get that info but not unless you become a paid member. Without that, asking "how much is my knife worth" is against the rules.

I see, but here I am not asking "how much my knives cost". I ask about an online database website for example or something like that. If such online resource exists of course. Or any other web site which is the best to start.

It doesn't exist. You're going to have to research recent sales of the same models at places that sell used knives. Here, for example. Knife consignment sites. The 'Bay.

The paid memberships are worth the cost ... they are just to help support and keep the site up and running ... but if you buy or sell just a few knives in a year you'll cover the small cost for a gold membership in information for knives trading selling or buying.

Follow the exchanges, Ebay, and Arizona Custom Knives. Since you have a Gold Membership you can post the knife and ask directly. There is no data base of knife prices or even of all Strider configurations.

It's an interesting collection of knives. You could probably call Strider and Hinderer to make sure they're legit. I also second the Arizona Custom Knife recommendation, they can help with value and sales

If I were to guess you're looking at 350-450 each on the Striders and Hinderer.

I don't think you can just send a photo to Strider anymore. The knock offs have gotten so good, they have said you have to send the knife in for examination.

That's probably what I would do, they should all fit in a smallish box then I'd have written proof that they're all legitimate.

Great tip. I'm not experienced with estimating knife prices, it seems more art than science. :p I always found it similarly tricky to estimate prices on used firearms that were not well known collectors' items.

Two sources I've used to get an estimated starting point for pricing:
  • The exchange here on the forum, look at past sales. BTW, a suggestion for folks selling on the exchange: I wish that folks would leave the final sale price of their knife posted somewhere in the thread. This is REALLY valuable pricing info for others trying to figure out a reasonable sale price range. I just went back now and updated my one sale item, a ZT 0561, and put the final sale price back into the thread. The OP is asking about a "database", I'd suggest that if everybody left the final sale price of their knife in their sale thread, that *IS* the database, that is the closest thing we have.
  • Talk to a reputable gun-and-knife shop owner near your place. I'm lucky to have a really good place just a few blocks from my house, they buy/sell used guns and knives all the time, the buyer there is super experienced, friendly, and will help me quickly estimate a price on something for free because I do a lot of business with his store.

Thanks for advices, will do my best :)

It seems it's better for me to organize all the knives in folders by brands, I have about 150-200 different knives now ... I've added new ones in the google folder and it looks like a mess ... can I write here when I sort out all the knives by brands? or it's better to create a different thread per brand?

S soniccat If the pics you posted are the knives you inherited, they're fakes.
No need to go through the trouble of trying to find a value on the authentic brands. If you send them off, you may not get them back. Most companies don't take kindly having their knife faked.

Any time you see the name "Kevin John" stamped on a knife blade, it's a fake. It may be easier for you to search faked knives and see if you may have some that are not fakes. Then, you can go from there.

I fear you have at least one counterfeit there-- to the best of my knowledge, and correct me if I'm wrong, the ZT 0777 was never released in S35VN.

Yes, the pics are my knives. My father told me, when he was alive, that he was buying both, Chinese knives and USA's knives. Interesting, will try look for fake knives first. Thanks for the hint about "Keving John".

I won't send off anything, I live far away of these companies. Will try to follow the advices above first.

And I am definitely sure they are not all fakes.
