How to find most popular web searches?

How do you find out what the most popular web searches are?

Heck, even Bladeforums has a list of popular searches at the bottom of some pages, but I can't find the same information for, say, google.

I know google has "google zeitgeist" etc, but all those tools ask you to type the search term so they can show you how much it's used.

I just want a LIST of what searches people are doing on the Web.
I'd prefer to limit it to "news" but I'd live with just general Google searches.

Does anyone know this stuff?

The Zeitgeist page has links to info listing common searches on days and throughout entire years. Do a little looking.

I saw that page. I guess I just didn't believe that those were the top searches. I expected to see things like "recession", "Hillary Secretary of state", etc.

Google Trends

Allows you to see how often something has been searched on google, by what country, and graphs the searches over time. It even looks to see if any news events correspond to spikes in the frequency.
