It's my first time using a under cutter. I don't know how to finish the bottom of the flower or just leave it as is? Any suggestions? I'm just practicing and trying to learn where and how to strategically place cuts. looking to tool something nice on my axe sheath ... I think leather is the only place socially acceptable
For a man to wear a flower... :D

I'd of bevelled the leaves and the folded leaves bleow your seeds. Ya might have made a knife cut to contain the seeds. Don't use the whole pear shader, tip it up. Ya 'll get a little more depth out of it too. Try to get the back ground around your practice flower a little more distinct and uniform too. Here's the hard part of flower carving and thats designing the design. It must have a start and stop so it just can't appear floating in the center of your ax sheath.

Thanks Dave I thought of what you said and I tried a bit of weave around it maybe on scrap (no border just focusing on flower for now) I don't have a small beveler so I used a small modelling spoon to open the petals and knife cut containing the seeds. I find it hard to clean up the under cut , I have a checkered beveler and the undercut tool just burnishes and makes a mess of the bevel. frustrating nevertheless but I will keep trying. I appreciate you're critique Dave , Ilike to think it has improved my workmanship.

Edit: Am I not going deep enough with the undercut?

I modified it a bit I don't know. I ordered 5 of stolhman's books they should be here sometime in the near futur but I don't think they explain floral decor

I like making knives and have made my share of sheaths too just been some yrs back.im gonna get fired back up and post some pics in the near future trying to get all my knife tools oiled up and working and all the guys on this forum have been helpful and friendly if y'all are ever down in SW ms feel free to come by my shop and see what I have made or screwed up! Canada looks like some beautiful country and would love to visit it's just along way from home ...

Do you have a modelling spoon grumpy? The center petal needs to be lower than the two on the outside and they need to be lower than the folded ones below the seeds. If ya don't have a small beveller maybe you could use a modelling spoon.
