How to "finish" a survival bracelet?

Ok,

I have gotten this far on making my first survival bracelet:

The question is how to finish off the rascal.

1) Somehow burn and fuse the ends that are sticking out.
2) Trim the ends and use some kind of glue to fuse the cords together.
3) Tie a clever knot.

Any suggestions and difficulties that might arise with clues to their
solution?

I am sorta a klutz with the Barbeque lighter that I am using to fuse
the ends of the paracord when I initially cut the rascal...

This is off-topic, but where did you learn how to weave paracord to make the bracelet in the first place?

For that sort of thing, I usually make the last knot good and tight, then cut the paracord to about an eighth of an inch, then carefully melt each end into the curve on it's side of the knot with a Bic lighter. Be careful not to melt through the whole knot though. It helps to moisten your fingertips and sort of moosh the ends in. Likely not the best way to do it, but just how I do it. Great looking bracelet, BTW.

wonder how much cord it would take to make a belt...

i've searched and found links for instructions for a belt but they were dead.

cool, thanks. i think the links i found were for that site on an old server.

Gray Fox, I'm dense, what is that thing that you have tied up? Otherwise, nice knotwork.

I made a survival bracelet last night, mostly so that I could amaze my kids with it this morning. I puzzled over the thing for a while, trying to figure out how to best get it on and off once it's completed. The website that shows how to make them shows one method of finishing them off is to use a button. I WAS going to go that way until I looked at this thread again and saw how Gray Fox is doing it. Cool. I'm going to have to go that way with it.

BTW, I've had good luck with fusing the ends of 550 together. I hold them in position with a needle nose pliers (or my leatherman), ignite them with a lighter, and it works like a charm.

Thread the end back thought the lark's head and cut, sizzle, and compress. Should hold together fine.

Tie a knot, and leave at least 8" of cord on each side dangling.

Before you actually head out to the woods, use the dangling ends to tie on the small end of a large smoked ham.

You'll be surprized how this will get you through many survival situations!

if your all interested heres a pic of a belt that i finnished today just need to cut a little off one tailing end. this has about 14-15 M of 550 pound para cord
