The first day i got my BM 580 somthing happend and the knife would not lock closed with out using the extra back lock. so this is what you do. Warning doing this will void your warrenty and this may not be the exact problem you have! Get a tork t-6 and t-8, use the t-6 to remove the front 4 screws. look at the center screw, it is a little longer than the others. Do the same with the other side but you also need to remove the pocket clip. on the liner of the backside there are 2 more screws screwed into the liner itself, remove them. those 2 screws are longer than all of the other screws. now dislodge the axis omega springs, you can simpley pull them out. slide the axis bar into the larger area cut out below regular area where it locks. now pull out the lock( this may be tricky but you can do it without bending anything. now use the t-8 to remove the pivot make sure the knife is open when you do it. seperate the two liners. now you have the back spacer and extra lock assembly and watch were the silver pin is that press fits into the liner. now use the t-6 bit to remove the thumbstud. look into the backside of the blade it is milled out and has a recess were the spring fits into. now cock the blade about 45 degrees back and set it down so the spring sits in the correct place into the knife blade you may need to wiggle it a little bit but you will feel and hear it a little bit when it is seated correcly. now it gets tricky because the blade has to stay like that and it will look funky because it is at and upward angle and if it moves it may get put into the wrong spot. there are two placed the spring fits one is wrong and the other is right. you need to remove the thumbstud the get the spring into the correct the spot. put the backspacer back into place and fit the back lock back into place using the silver pin and metal thing that looks like a hook. then fit the other liner in and use the two long screws to hold it togather. dont worrie i didnt forget about the blade stop thats later. once togather put the pivot screw back in and tighten. if done correctley when you close the blade it should stay even without the axix lock. if not the blade probabley moved down too far and got misplaced within the blade. now get a flat screwdriver and wedge the liners apart only a little so you can fit the black backstop casing into position. once inside if it is not lined up correctley use the tork bit and adust through the side bladestop hole. now put in the metal bladestop. reinstall the axis lock and put the handles back on, remember the middle screw is longer and put the pocket clip on and you saved mailing fees and 10 days.
