Hi guys, I'm collecting ideas for what to do to change the name carved into this sheath to something that looks alot cleaner and less personal. Please weigh in on what you think can be done to obscure the name or turn it into something else. Thanks

Judging from your photo, I do not think there is a reasonable fix for that. Anything you do to remove or obliterate the mark will also do further damage to the sheath. It is on the inside when the sheath is worn so really, I'd say learn to live with it. That, of course, is just my opinion. Others may differ.

One idea that comes to mind is to pop the stitching out and then sew in a new pouch or firesteel holder that wraps completely around the sheath, from welt to welt.

Even if you don't want a pouch of some kind, you could use the strap to mount a badge or concho, whatever. The only problem would be sewing the welt seam again to make it all look intentional from the get go.

Vaughn, I like your idea.....but I maintain that even in doing that....this style of sheath can be made from scratch in about the same amount of time.

I agree with Ray. If it bothers you that much, make a new one. It will be fairly simple, especially considering you have a ready made pattern to go by.

That you for your input, guys. I don't want a new sheath as this one is vintage and original to a collectible knife. What about using the same method as was used to carve the name to continue carving, in this case making a full black rectangle around the name, and leaving out some spaces between the letters to make a sort of mountain motif. There seem to be enough upward peaks between the letters to make something resembling mountains, the name would be gone, and the dark rectangle would look neater. What do you think? (I've never carved leather, so I have no idea how this would go)
