The tobacco pipe has taken on some renewed popularity with outdoorsmen recently. I was walking through a store and I saw a pipe tool and though 'I could make that.' This is a fun little project that will take you about 10 minutes. It helps a beginner like me develop a little finesse with the hammer and increase the skill of fire management. Enjoy!

I just use forged nails.

That is pretty cool! Tomorrow I am going to make a tool for forging nails. I have to forge weld a bunch of stuff together and then make a punch. Should be fun.

Interesting project, I've never seen one before.

I'm no real forger, but I noticed some things.

I noticed your anvil moving around on you visually and audibly.
If you fasten it down, you will lose less energy.

I noticed when you hot cut on the anvil with a chisel.

You have the potential to scar the face that way.

You can make a simple plate that has a hardy, drop it on and use that as a hot cutting plate.

It will save your face as smooth as possible.

If you keep a wire brush handy, you can keep the scale off the face and avoid having that into your workpiece.

If your clothes have any poly in them they can melt and stick, cotton wool and leather are the way to go.
