This is a pretty easy and fun project for those of you who have a forge. There is nothing like having your own homemade gear. It doesn't get a whole lot more personal than a fire kit.

Cool thread. Flint and steel is fun. For those without a forge a good american made file can be broken, the edge grounded down to make a real good striker. Just don't overdo the grinding/sanding as it might heat the metal too much. Take it nice and slow.

Then make your own kit with local items.

On a side note to the best of my knowledge there is no actual flint in the USA rather chert and other flint like rocks. Quartz also works, sparks nice however gets rounded off fast.

Wow, A.I.G. you are really into this stuff deeply. Hey, it's harmless fun and useful knowledge so rock it. :) I always wanted to, but never was able to find a striker at a certain fur trade location. I know people that have found many of them. Your vids are fun and interesting.
