Hey guys, a friend of mine is offering me is grinder at a screaming deal, the catch is that he is in Tuscon Arizona and im in Los Angeles CA.

What are the reccomend ways to ship a grinder that don't involve much work on the shipper behalf? Are there services you can drop off an item and they will crate and freight?

I would think any service that can do that would be extremely expensive.

Ameribrade ships there smaller pre assembled grinder in a box bolted to a plywood insert and then reinforces all the corners with 2x3s

Shipping in multiple boxes would probably be best as well.

I'm not sure how big it is but if it's on a pallet or about that size, there are a lot of freight companies that will do that for a pretty good deal. Fastenal is one of them that we've used before.

Can I offer a (perhaps overly simple) suggestion?
If your friend can meet you part way - say outside Phoenix or thereabouts - you could buy him lunch, hang out and then drive back to LA
Total cost probably less than crating/shipping/unpacking etc…..and you’d get to say thanks in person

This was gonna be my advice too. I had a very generous maker on this forum give me his surface grinder as well as a bunch of smaller tools, so I drove 3 hours to meet him, he wasn't inconvenienced too badly, and we got a nice visit and a meal together as well.

I too would suggest driving, I've made the route you would take several times a few years ago. It's not bad. I went to buy a horse on a very isolated ranch in NM just over the border from AZ Actually made it four times in a few months.

I drove down to Charleston SC for a grinder package and other stuff. Deal was too good to pass up. Made a weekend of it and took the family.
