How to get detent ball in an integral handle?

I'm new here, hello everyone! I have a question I just couldn't find when searching... How do you set a detent ball into an integral handle liner lock? Is there a simple trick that is done, or somewhere I could be lead to, to view how its done? I'm trying to wrap my head around how its done when there's no space to push the ball in with a vice with such little clearance. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I think everything is done/loaded through the pivot hole(s).

Sorry, I was thinking about bearings and such.....

I've got these two integrals and they have a hole drilled through the locking-bar to spot the blade and then I imagine the detent is seated in the hole using whatever to seat it to the proper depth.

i would use something like a vice grip with one side of the jaws ground away for clearance to fit into the slot then pinch the ball in with a washer of the ame thickness as the pivot so asa to set the depth properly

Drop in ball with tweezers, shim ball with washer dropped over it to desired depth, add a second large shim that is blade plus pivot washer/bearing gap thickness. Put in arbor press and press on lock bar to set.

The first shim would simply be a washer or two, say .025" tall. The second shim would be thick and large like the blade, maybe .170" for a .155" blade.

You could also use one shim with a recess in it set to the detent height. Insert over the ball and press until shim is flush.

Excellent, thanks for all the info guys! I also thought of placing a small cut of hardened steel between the gap with the ball and washer spacer... Then insert in a press pushing down on the outside of the lockbar. That should seat it just as well, I think I'll try that way first, if not I'll use some of the things you guys listed. Thanks again!

That's what I meant, just hard to explain well. Sounds like you have a good plan! Let's see some pics of you get a chance, sounds like a cool project.
