Hey guys.. i love the BF.. and was acctually going to buy Gold membership tomorrow (once i fill up my paypal)... but last night i got an infraction as i tried to sell something without a gold membership.. That was my own fault and should have known better.. (although i really wasn't too aware of that rule).. guess i found out the hard way...

Anyway.. i have "30 points" infraction on this profile.. what do points do/and how can i get rid of these?? they expire in 2014!.. but i dont wana spend $50 and god forbid i accidentally get another infraction and get banned or w/e...

And also... do these show to the public? as ive been trying to work my positive feedback up.. which i have been doing.. and i dont want this infrac. to discourage any1 for any reason...

Bottom line: anyway to rid myself of the infraction? instead of waiting 3 years?

nope - once infracted, it's there until it expires.
OTOH, gold is only $25, unless you're also paying shipping on a free remora.
pretty much, if you mind your manners and read the sticky's, you should be OK.

Thanks alot!.. and woah? only $25!.. ah i didn't know that... i got enough in my paypal right now =p... time to go upgrade! =p haha.. thanks again

Well.. thanks but thats not helpful to me or awnsering my question.. a simple "no there isn't." ... or "yes you can do so by.." would be better...

Avoiding infractions is simple when you read the rules. The area where the rules are located is free. It only takes a couple minutes of your time. You aren't asking for someone to do that for you now are you? There is no way to remove an infraction here that I am aware of. For all intents and purposes, knowledge is power and the only thing that will help you avoid it in the future. It is what it is.

The original post that you were infracted for has a red or yellow card , that is all others can see ,

the infraction particulars you have on your profile page is only visible to you and (I think) the moderators .

How many profiles do you have?

I thought you were only allowed 1 account? More would be considered a bannable offsense?

As 1234 said, only you and the moderators can see the infractions.

Only Spark can remove an infraction. Even the moderator who hit you with it cannot remove it. I know this from experience.

More than a year ago, I saw a knife on ebay that should have been selling for $20. The seller had a Buy It Now price of $300. I started a thread about it (with a link) and used the sarcastic subject title "Hey, I'm Deal Spotting!" As it turned out, Spark had just told the moderators to start cracking down on deal spotting. One of the moderators saw my subject title and immediately hit me with an infraction. He also sent me a very forceful PM. I explained to him that I wasn't actually deal spotting and that my subject title was meant to be in jest. Once the moderator recognized the misunderstanding, he explained the situation to Spark. I think it was the moderator (but can't remember for sure) that told me that only Spark could remove an infraction, and that I would have to plead my case. I did that in this particular sub-forum. The moderator who gave me the infraction thought it should be rescinded. Esav also went to bat for me. Spark wasn't moved by any of this, and the infraction remained.

So— here is what I learned from all this: (1) I didn't die. I'm still here. (2) Don't make joking thread titles.

The first infraction always stings. Get over it. Don't do the thing that got you the infraction again.

People who never get infractions in life aren't having any fun, and it's probably best to avoid them. :)

You can never get out of life scott free. :)

I'm not going to say "suck it up" or "deal with it", but I will say that you should read all the rules thoroughly and remember them. Keep your nose clean, and you should be fine. There's many, many of us that have been around here for years without ever getting a single infraction. 30 points (out of 50) that lasts 3 years is a pretty hefty infraction, no argument here, but selling without supporting (membership) one of the things they take very seriously here. This site isn't exactly cheap to run (it is the largest knife forum on the web, after all), and it's mostly funded by members and dealers that support the site. So if an non-supporting member or dealer tries selling stuff here, it's extremely unfair to those that do support the site, which is why the infraction is so severe.

Personally, if I ran this site (which I don't, so that doesn't mean much), I'd reduce your infraction to a warning, assuming you do go with a Gold (or Platinum) membership. When you join a forum, you should read the rules, but in today's age with all the "click to agree" and "I agree to the terms" you see on websites or software installations, nobody reads that crap. If you're not familiar with internet forums in general you might not notice or understand "Sticky" posts, or bother to read them. So I can understand why you overlooked or didn't see this forums rules about selling. But you also need to understand the reasons behind the infraction.
