Hey man, what is your doubt? Is that black all over the edge? Just like a friend told above, it’s a sanmai technique… a sandwich with 3 leaf with different compound then after attack with “acid”, just the “core” be different.

For aesthetic you can do that on carbon blade .Use something like nail lacquer on spine side and make pattern you like towards edge side .Then etch blade and after that clean nail lacquer.............

As the rest have said it's a san mai construction. In this case it's a stainless-carbon-stainless construction with the carbon steel cutting edge darker because it gets etched from the acid bath much more than the stainless.
Yea I was hoping for a way without san mai
