I've been grabbing screenshots of balisongs from movies and I was wondering if there was some way I could get clips of the balisong scenes from some DVDs.

If you play the DVD in Windows Media Player you can right click on the video while it is playing and take a screen shot.

Yeah, screen shots.

But to get a clip out, perhaps in mpeg format, is difficult. It's not technically difficult, but the DVD encoding scheme allows the author of a disk to set a bit that forbids the taking of clips from it. Most commercial disks have that bit set. And legitimate software including MS Win Media Player, respects that bit. You're gonna have to get some sort of illegal software and that always carries risks of viruses and such.

there are video-capture cards you can use...like play the DVD through a dvd player then run that video feed into your computer and those video-capture kits include a way to record it...

gosh, gollnick encouraging illegal activities...

crazyphil out!

There are ways.

First, can you watch DVD's on your computer? Iff you can, there are relative simple ways to cut the movieclips from a movie.

Short version: rip dvd to your hard drive, convert to Divx or something, get a program to cut and paste in movies like Win DVD creator, Pinacle studio etc.

It does take some time, but it can be done.
New stand alone dvd/hdd recorders have built in features to cut scenes out of movies. ( cut comersials out off your favorite sitcom etc. )

Hope that answers your question a little. Iff you need more info give me a yell.

I use a simular way to rip music from DVD music concerts. I made a tuturiall about that some time ago: DVD to MP3

OMG thank you, I have been trying to figure out a way to get a song off my Drowning Pool DVD forever.

Just one question though, what program do I need to recognize a .rar file? I have a fairly new Dell, but it doesn't recognize .rar, and its online search feature doesn't help.

A program that I have used is called AnyDVD. It runs in the background and automatically removes copy protection and region codes from any DVD you put in the drive. Makes it nice and easy to rip or make images of movies.

I don't know what the legality of this program is.
