How to giving a slick Micarta handle some grip

I bought a Mikro Canadian with a micarta handle. The combination of small size and smooth slick surface puts me too close to cut fingers. I don't want to just experiment with the micarta and possibly mess it up.
Any ideas out there :)

250-400 grit sand paper, other may have some better ideas but the resin used is mighty tuff to work with once smoothed out.

They suggest washing the handle with soap and hot water out of the box if it's too slick. Besides sanding, some people like to give the micarta a very light sandblasting to remove some resin from the surface exposing more of the canvas texture. Bark River also has a matte finish black canvas micarta that's probably not as slick.

If you take a look at maintenance, tinkering, and embellishing you can get a lot of information on this. Personally I use a dremel with either a sanding bit or a grinding bit to dig in and create a groove.

I hope this helps, J.

You can remove the resin portion of the micarta with chemicals, leaving the grippy canvas/fiber portion behind.

Take a dab of Comet, Bartender's Friend, Ajax or similar cleaner and a scotchbrite pad to the handle. Rinse and dry. You will have a non slip matte finish.

I washed my Bravo-1 with hot water and dish liquid. Then I rubbed it with some steel wool and now it's like grippy silk.Be warned though it will lighten the color slightly. My Bravo-1 went from a shiny black to a green Grey.Still looks great though.

Save your handles and some work. Just wrap it with some tennis racket grip tape, you know the stuff that only sticks to itself. Super grippy and you can take it off when you want.
