Say I wanted to polish the butt cap to my Ka-Bar (for the sake of argument). Also you might want to take a small bit of finish off of it. What might you use? Sandpaper? if so what kind? what kind of cleaner? Don't know much about knife treatment....

Tuff,
Depending on the "finish" you trying to remove/cleanup, I would suggest 400 or 600 grit wet/dry sandpaper (the type used for auto body repair), if there is heave dent/scratches, you may have to start with a courser paper (220 or 320 grit) and then work progressivly through the 400 and 600, eliminating 320 grit scratches with the 400 and so on. If you have only minor clean up to do, try a polishing cream such as Flitz, or semi-chrome. (these are available at better sporting goods and gun stores) Good Luck!
