What is the best way to grind a tanto blade? I realize this may be a loaded question with many answers, but I've just built my first tanto folder and I'm a little worried about attempting the grind. First off, I can't decide if I should try a chisel grind or make it a hollow grind.

I also can't quite figure out how to deal with the two edges on each side. Should I grind a pass or two on the first bevel then go to the second, then flip the blade and do the same thing on the other side unitl they all are done? Or should I grind the main bevels and then go back and do the leading ones as I would a false edge? ANY advice would be much appreciated! :)

Peter, I think I would grind the long lines first, then match the fronts. The shorter segments would be easier to adjust. Just a thought, maybe not the best. It's a great looking knife so far! Terry

do the long first flat or double grind, then hold at 45% to grind the tip. take your time and quench the tip heats up fast. good luck
