Ive been playing around with the thought of applying a satin finish on my FFBM. Ive seen so many guys done it on here since I joined, and my hands are tickling...:p

I dont have access to any kind of machinery. Figured I'd rob the hardware store of all kinda grits of sandpaper and possible some chemical to loosen up the coating. Dont really want to drill out the handles, but still want to get it nicely finished all around.. Yeah, I'm picky:/

Sorry if this has already been discussed into eternity, but as a "cheapass" member, I cant use the search function.

*Title meant to say coated, but you got that..*

Use strip eze or jasco stripper,, can pour on handles,, buy lots of paper, set aside many blocks of time,, and just keep rubbin,, buy a sixer for every session,, have fun with it,, you will probably never do another one by hand,, or you will enjoy it,, if you want her satin,, go for it,

I found acetone to be a better stripper than paint thinner. (it just occured to me that Acetone would be a good name for the other kind of stripper but anyway....) use some of that to soak it and then scrape it off. Sand paper works but I highly recomend a newer product I found at the local home improvement place. Its alternating strips of scotchbright and sand paper formed into a roll/drill bit style attachement. I used the medium and then the fine. they cost about $8 and saved me days of sanding. Be glad you dont have the old style ceramic coating. I could not believe how stubborn it was.
Post pics.

Tip for getting into any grooves..........

I used a Dremmel with the little sanding discs that you can get for them to get into the grooves. You need a steady hand and don't rush it but it works and saves time on getting the grooves right.

I do the flat sections with various grits of wet and dry wrapped around a small sanding block (After the coating had been stripped)

Go for it

How to satin a coated blade:

1) Take the knife and wrap it up good.
2) Place in shipping box, send to "Busse Combat" including a note that says "Garth, please apply a satin finish".
3) Wait two weeks.
4) Go to mail box and retrieve package.
5) Pay the Visa bill at the end of the month.

Seriously, without the right equipment, it is very tough to do.

How much would it cost to have a AK47 done in a satin finish from the Busse shop?

Slightly off subject but a similar idea, I'm getting married on 11th of july and my fiancee want to use my stripped fusion BM, I don't really have the time to clean it up myself, anyone up for the job, I will pay and post pics ofc ;)?

Using an FFBM to cut the cake???? You got yourself a keeper.. My girl refers to it as the "damn knife":(
