How to ID a 1 of 300 SHBM?

there are far more knowledgeable here than me but my understanding is that the grind on the top/false edge of the blade is the distinguishing characteristic. I have been told by those in the know that mine is one and it has a beveled false edge but doesnt meet at the spine. I have seen some pics on here too so im sure someone can post one for you. Ill enjoy looking at it too.

That may be a 1 of 6. The clip of a 1-300 is flat on top.

I'm on a blackberry so I can't post pictures right now, maybe later if no one gets to it.

Top to bottom, this is what they have been called, but the actual numbers are questionable. I've seen at least 8 of the 1 of 6's.

1 of 6
1 of 300
Standard

Standard.:D:D

BUT!!, I did own a 1 of 300 (2 in fact), but it was just called a factory swedge by the sellers.

Funny thing is, I never really heard of the 1 of till rather recently.

On the EX they would be listed as having a swedge and how narrow or wide (or not), but that was usually it. No matter, back then it was either the SHBM or, the BME and the straights sold right quick, since the BMEs could be ordered from the shop.

Long Ago and Far Away.:(:(:(

I think I may have had a 1 of 6 as well.... But mine had a cut out at the front talon hole as well, making it a bottle opener of sorts. I didn't really know at the time just what I had. I know the metal on mine had a different "Ping" to it (best description of the sound made when you thump it or run your nail on the edge that I could come up with), if that helps at all.

good pic thats the one i was thinking of and mine is the 1:300. wish i had bought several more at the time but i struggled just to come up with the $297 at the time. it seemed like a lot for a knife.

Flat Top Beveled.

Narrow Flat Top beveled

Round Top Beveled, so called one of Six's

Just barely not sharp Top.

At least one, possibly only one Sharp Top Coated Beveled.

Sharpened Top-Mostly Shiny, Limiteds, numbered.

Flat Top Beveled Limiteds.

Narrow Flat Top Beveled limiteds.

Round Top Beveled Limiteds, Number 350 is one example, prolly started as a Flat Top and got rounded in the polishing/Satining process.

Seems the Bevel is the common issue.

While there is another way to identify All of those So called one of three Hundred knives, That would be for Jerry to say, not me, Jerry does like His Secrets, LOL

I know that "ping".....it sounded like glass, huh? Ahhhh. The 1/300 "ping". A beautiful ting!

Andre,

The "secret" wouldn't have something to do with the hardness would it?
Thanks for all of the info on the different variations!
