I've read alot about Jason or J. Jacobs custom knives being low-quality steel Pakistani knives. Looking on ebay, I've seen two different types of 'Jacobs Custom' knives for sale. One has 'J. Jacobs Custom, Number xxx' engraved (very poorly) on the blade near the guard. The other kind has an elkhead logo with 'Jacobs Custom' in black, not engraved, in the same place on the blade. Are these both by Jason Jacobs? I have one of the elkhead-types, purchased about six years ago; it's not flawless in fit and finish (a few machine marks on the tang, for instance), but it's solidly built and holds a good edge, more like something a skilled hobbyist would make. I bought it in part because the seller (who I believe was also the maker) used it to carve a shaving out of the back of a factory-made stainless-steel blade, which seemed fairly impressive, along with the single-page flyer he gave me explaining the steel of the blade. I'm just curious what exactly I've got here.
