how to keep a pointy tip

Hey guys, I couldn't find the previous threads, but I was wondering if someone could tell me how I keep from rounding off the tips of my knives when I sharpen them? Gets to be a pain to put a new one on. Thanks ahead for the info.

What sharpening method/system do you use? I use a Lansky and have never had a problem rounding off tips. I have also used it to restore rounded/blunted tips with quite a bit of success. Just don't let the stone/knife slip and hit the tip, sharpen it like you would the rest of the edge.

When you get to the point of the knife on your down stroke, move the handle away from
the stone 45 degrees or so, to make sure the
point touched the stone. And be sure not to
pull the point off the stone, end your stroke
with the point in contact with the stone.

I'm using bench stones to sharpen my knives. I think I'm been digging the point in just a little bit when I finish up the stroke. I think I'll try your idea roguesoul, and move the handle just a little bit. thanks for the info guys. Much appreciated.
