I just received a couple of new sheets of CPM154 from Crucible.I was laying them out for laser cutting and thought you guys might like to see how to get the max from a sheet. The sheets are 12X24".Notice that there are three Chinese chefs knives (wrongly called cleavers ,often) hidden among the French style chef knives.I got 28 knives on the two sheets with less than a pound of scrap. That is a 95% yield.
BTW, I was talking with the rep from Crucible about doing a comparison test on CPM154 vs S30V vs S125V.She was receptive to the idea.Test knives would be chef's knives, and would be given all the normal strength and cutting tests as well as kitchen tests.( My main goal was to see if the results were in comparison to the cost of the steel,or if there was little gain by going to the super-V steel)
Would you guys be interested in the results? If so I'll get back to her.Might make a good article for Blade Mag.,too.
