How To Lighten Stag Handles?

I know that some people darken stag handles. Mostly by burning or chemicals ("burnt stag").

But what if I want to lighten the stag? To make it whiter and more natural-looking? How do I do that? Sanding? Buffing? Chemicals?

Thanks.

Stag is darker on the outside naturally. It looks like wood. Funny how nature does that!
Burning stag is a horrible idea. You can spot it across the room.
I can't imagine why you would think stag should be whiter, because that's not natural.
To do so, you can sand off all of the outer brown surface.

I want to make "burnt stag" look better. I hate the look of "burnt stag." It looks stupid.

File/sand the burned areas off.
Dye the stag with potassium permanganate solution. Lightly sand high areas, polish, then wax.
