Hi

I just received my Combat Karambit and the blade is really squeezed, hard to open.

Can I loosen the blade by using the skrew in the handle?

Thanks.

(I apologise for my really bad english)

yes if ya loosen the screw it should free up the blade, might also help to let it break in and try some good lube (ie tuffglide, rem-oil) on the pivot, it'll probably loosen up as it wears in.

The Karambits do come unusually tight! I say never loosen a brand new knife until it is broken in very well. Lube it for sure, but they all loosen up after a while and will end up to loose if you mess with them early on.

if it gets loose its a simple matter to tighten the pivot back down a little bit.

My point is that if you can stick with the factory setting for a while (assuming it will loosen up to something more reasonable), you will be better off in the end. It is like rebuilding an engine. Once you tear into it, it will never be the same as it was from the factory!

Once you loosen it up, you are going to be messing with it for the rest of the life of that knife. If you end up going with Threadlock, you had better get it exactly right before it dries.

imho its hardly like tearing an engine apart, and if ya know WTF if ya do tear an engine apart it will go back same as before (how did we get into engines lol).

i have loosened/tightened pivots on knives literally countless times and its not rocket science, believe me lol.

if ya use the blue loctite its not permanent FWIW.

its not like EKI has a micrometer to tighten down pivot screws, come on now.

I usually loosen the screw to get it to working level. Be careful not to loosen screw so much that you get blade wobble, that you do not want. Other manufacturers should offer us the ability to loosen the screw and adjust our knives as conveniently as emerson does.

I agree, I love that EKI offers us the convenience to change the tightness of the screw with such ease. Sometimes when you need it to wave easier, I'll loosen it a bit, like when I'm wearing softer material khaki's othertimes I may like it tighter. All I need is a screwdriver and I've got all the options.

I find that waving depens more on the pair of pants I am wearing, than it does on how tight the knife is! I have never had an Emerson that wasn't perfect after it broke in, without messing with the tension.

I am a proud owner of several Emersons and have had to loosen the screw on a few of them to get them to wave well. Overall Emerson makes a great knife, really but we all have the right to nit pick on them. I do think other manufacturers get the wave better (spyderco) but again emerson is a rela sturdy solid knife and I have some I carried aroun for many years.

My combat karambit's screw loosened on its own resulting in blade wobble, I tightened it with my thumb nail.....should I be locktighting the screw?
