Well I kind of forgot that I had this particular knife. It is the xlg Voyager serrated edge. I had given it to my son who is a jr. in college as he pracitces martial arts. Anyways found it in his room in the basement today and looking it over I decided a tune up was definetly needed. I have another but plain edge that is pretty smooth. This one was/is pretty beat. Speckled with rust and the opening on it is atrocoius. I mean really hard to move it open. Anyways cleaned up the rust with a scotch brite and some RemOil. I have even got it to where it grabs once again when cutting. Talk about a pain in the ass thing to do. But I did it well enough I guess. I just can't figure out how to make it open smoother. I have blown it out with compressed air, oiled and then cleaned the pivot area with a brush, WD 40, soap and water, dried it off and then reoiled it. It doesn't come apart so I kind of stuck. The thing is a real bear to move both open and closed to the point that when opening the force used sometimes moves your thumb off the stud. Any help is appreciated. Has anyone ever tried to take one apart? The lock up on this one is better than my other in the sense that when my plain edge is open there is just the tiniest movement to set the blade in the downward position against the locking bar. This one is litteraly like a bank vault. Keep'em sharp and thanks for the info.

I've used Breakfree CLP and Tri-Flow on mine, and the latter seems to work a bit better. One problem is that the knife is long and hangs far enough down in my pocket to pick up lint, etc. When I wash pants, I pull out the pockets to try to keep them as clean as possible and minimize the re-gunking of the pivot point. However, if you have some rust spots/pitting between the metal and the zytel frame, I'm not sure that cleaning and oiling will ever solve the problem. Unfortunately, I don't know whether you could pay CS to knock out the pin, polish up the joint, and fit a new pin.

Soap and water just seem to make Voyagers stiffer. I now use only BreakFree on my two large Voyagers, just a tiny bit, and clean them with Q-Tips. They open and close as easy as an old broken-in Zippo and exhibit no wear or wobble whatsoever after thousands of openings and closings.

Clean the knife with hot soapy water and blow dry with a hair dryer. Mix a drop or 2 of Breakfree with a small amount of Flitz polish. Drip it into the pivot area and open and close with this mix until the blade opens smoothly. THis will take awhile with many openings and closings. The tighter the fit the longer it will take. Once the desired smoothness is achieved wash out the mix with the hot soap and water , dry, and lube with your chosen lube.(Tuff glide or Rem dry lube my choice);)
