If you're one of the millions of Americans that struggle with high blood pressure, how are you planning to control your BP when the SHTF and the pharmacy has a "closed because Obama said so" sign out front. Humor aside, what are your plans? Cider vinegar cocktails? Garlic? Elevator music and meditation?

What really works? A stroke is basically the result if you let the old BP get wild. What would you do to avoid that given the unavailability of doctor issued dope? Weigh in you long haired hippies!

Lose weight.
Exercise more.
Low fat diet.

Eat food, not too much, mostly plants.
It sounds simple, but it's a complete change in habits.

It's not BS, It works...I just can't stand to do it - is all.

a shot of medicinal fire water a day can't hurt.

1 yr 5 months ago I was 295lbs,on meds for Diabetes and High BP. This is the plan I used. I am now 245lbs. 2 weeks ago My doctor ran tests and my A1c level and BP are now under control. She took me off both meds. Drink lots of water and think everytime before you put something in your mouth. Also, slow weight loss over time is better than doing a crash diet. I still want to be around 200lbs. I give myself another yr for that.

Ummm moderate your weight and fitness level maybe? You should do that even if S doesn't HTF. BP drugs are hilarious; don't eat healthy or exercise, just take our ridiculously expensive drugs for the rest of your life :jerkit: Same with a lot of drugs. Anti-Acids: Yes, chili dogs make you feel like you're having a heart attack, but instead of not eating them, just take these and you can eat all the food that your body doesn't want you to eat!.

Mrs. Powernoodle's cousin has a genetic predisposition for high BP, even though she is young (30s) and not a fatty. She lowered her BP with hardcore exercise, and getting very lean. Something about exercise seems to increase the elasticity of blood vessels, lowering BP. Not sure of the mechanism, but it worked for her.

High Blood pressure in the technical sense is caused by 3 factors
Blood viscosity ( the thicker the blood the more pressure is required to circulate it)

Blood volume...(the more blood there is occupying a given space the greater the pressure in that space will be)

Peripheral resistance....scarring, calcification..or interference on the walls of the blood vessels that interfere with the free flow blood therefor more pressure is required to circulate the same amount of blood.

Best to attack this on the 2 fronts of perpipheral resistance, and viscocity

viscocity is simple Hydrate, hydrate, hydrate... I think most Americans don't drink anywhere near enough water... I think half to 3/4 of a gallon a day will set you right if you are not in an arid or tropical climate, The more fluid you consume the more willbe retained by your blood to dilute the concentrations of particulate matter,

Peripheral resistance is hard... It;s hard to undo the damage that has already been done.. But diet and excercise are key.... 3/4 of every meal should consist of fruits and vegetables..1/4 should be lean meat... Keep your sodium intake minimal unless environmental co nditions demand otherwise..take plen ty of Garlic and magnesium

Just my 2 cents for what its worth

RETIRE ! Then you'll find everything drops , BP, sugar, cholesterol, pulse !!

As stated lose weight, exercise, eat lots of fruits and veggies, limit alcohol consumption, if you smoke ... quit.
Sodium intake effect on BP varies by individual.

Exercise and not ingesting s**t food is a remedy for many maladies.

I also use garlic like most people use salt. Try alternative spices if you don't like bland food.

DRINK MORE WATER.
I drink some coffee int he morning and iced tea at night, but the rest of the day, it's straight water. If I'm pissing yellow, I drink half a liter of water. If I'm pissing orange, I drink a liter of water.

What I was given as a rule of thumb by my doc, is that the average adult male will be a liter low on water when they first feel thirsty. Obviously, if you're below average in size, you'll be short less than a liter, if you're above average in size, you may be down more than a liter.

Drinking water also helps with weight loss. If you think you are hungry (many times we confuse the beginnings of thirst with hunger), drink a liter of water. You'll feel full. You'll also store less fat and have more constant energy by eating pretty small amounts of food every couple of hours rather than 2 or 3 big meals.

Nutritional help is readily available in Garlic and Vitamin B (especially Niacin).

Then get rid of carbs (especially cereal grains and sugar). That's the fastest way to lower blood pressure.

Good point.

We tend to eat WAY too many carbs. I think the primary reason is that carbs are cheaper than meat and (non-carb) vegetables.

if a time such as was discussed in "one second after" ever comes to pass, then sadly, many millions of folks will just die.

Not quite. There is a genetic factor in the incidence of high blood pressure (and many other maladies) Take my example: I'm 55 y.o., and have to take medication, FOR LIFE; I'm about 150 pounds, exercise, eat low carb.-low fat diet, drink moderately, don't smoke. So besides all of the above, you HAVE to take medication, in many cases (same with diabetes, seizures, reflux disease, etc). Certain alternative "medications" like garlic pills, have not proven to be of any help, in controlled clinical trials.

my dad became a vegetarian and got his completely under control. he wasnt overweight at all and has a really physical job but his is genetic. i personally would rather die but ok.

Get to your perfect weight, Or close, don't have a stroke worring about a FEW pounds, Garlic tablets help BP and several other ailments. Real Garlic is better yet. My blood pressure is about 110/ 65 even though I am over weight.
