How to maintain Kershaws.

I've been talking with some other people on the forums and after talking with them for awhile I've decided that I want to start collecting Kershaws. But, I don't plan on using any of the knives that I collect (I'll always have a knife that I carry around with me). I'm going to start a collection where I can pull out my knives and just admire them. What I'm trying to say is if I'm only going to be keeping my knives to admire and collect over time then do I have to clean them and do all that kind of stuff? I plan on pulling out my collection once in awhile and just wiping them down with a dry cloth to get any dust off (and anything else). Thank-You!

I think you just answered your own question... When do you clean a knife? When it's dirty. Will it get dirty just being fondled? I'm sure it will with fingerprints and such, eventually.

Haha, yeah I guess I did answer my own question.

A clean cloth and Windex or isopropyl alcohol are both very good for cleaning up the fingerprints. Beyond that, shouldn't need much else, assuming all blades are stainless steel.

Warning - this is a stupid question.

What is the point of having knives if they aren't used?

It wouldn't hurt to have a lube in the pivot that repels dust, or even a light coat of oil/grease on the blade. I know they're stainless, but it couldn't hurt. Depends on your climate, too--my friends Kershaw Chill rusted on him within a few weeks. He had it in his desk the whole time too.

If you get any damascus steel id put oil on the blade. I live in the northwest and my stainless steel blades will rust a little bit. If you are in a dry climate you are probably fine. I wouldnt store them in the sun light either(window sill), could make the rubber brittle or bleach the scales.

Store them open unless you want to have knives with no spring to them. I bought 6 original nib Kershaw S30v Boa's for $60 because the owner thought all the springs were broken and wouldn't listen to me. They were all bent from being stored closed for a few years.

How odd... I have a 440V boa that wasn't stored open and it still works just fine. IF the speedsafe completely loses it "spring" from being closed then it was defective and not heat treated properly.

Not to negate you or be a jerk, but stuff does wear out over time under constant pressure. They were not made to last forever.
