How to make micarta more grippy?

I have a knife with highly polished micarta handles and would like them to have more grip. How can I accomplish this aside from sanding? If sanding is required, how do I go about this without changing the handle contour? Thank you for any help you may have.

I would sand w/ 120-220 grit sandpaper lightly until you remove the polish or sandblast them...you won't change the contour to anything noticeable =)

Just going to add, once you have the texture you like, the handle may smooth with use. I clean with Gojo pumice hand cleaner to keep the grippy texture. This will get the hand oils, and other things out of the micarta as well.
