I have been looking for a tutorial on how to make Mosaic Pins but I cant seem to find one. I did a search on the form but couldnt find any posts on how to make them. Does anybody know where i can find one?

guitardemon try gbrannon.bizhat.com there is a tutorial in there. It helps if you fill out your profile when you register on this site, welcome to the fourm!!

More experienced folks chime in if I'm off base.
I believe the inner rods/etc stay in place because they are fitted in and cannot move.

Picture a stainless tube , 5 slim brass rods and one thicker copper rod , the copper rod would be the middle with the 5 brass surrounding it , all work together to keep each other in place , the epoxy adds color and makes the fitting permanent.

Getting the epoxy in is the hard part , you need some sort of pump I have read.

So I looked at the website and looked at all the tutorials. My question is how do you get the stuff to say inside the way you like it before you poor the epoxy in when you’re making a pin like this:

Just a thought on how I would make that pin. Set the outer pins around a center hollow tube. Then, pump your epoxy in through the center tube as you withdraw the center tube. Alternately, set up the perimeter pins, put a short piece of solid pin in the bottom to hold them in place, a short length of hollow tube in the top to hold from that end, and pump epoxy into the short hollow tube. After the epoxy sets, cut of the ends containing the short pieces and go to town!

Just my $.02. I've never made a mosaic pin.

These all sound like pretty good ideas. I guess ill just have to jump in and start trying and see how it turns out. Is there a certain type of epoxy I should use? Also how do I go about coloring it black. I read somewhere to use casting resin(I have no clue what this is). I googled it and couldnt find it. Can I mix paint in the epoxy? Thanks for all the good ideas so far.

John, go to northcoastknives.com, under the tutorial section there is a hints and tips page 4 that has a lot of what you're looking for...Joe

I don't know if you would consider this a mosaic pin but it is a nice look.

This one is cocobolo scales with brass and cocobolo pins.

I have sucessfully colored epoxy with "Testors" model car paint (found in the local Wally-world). Experiment because that paint is sorta like Brylcreem..........."A little dab will do ya".:D

Jim are you saying that you use a dremel and cut serrations into the 1/4in tubing and then use it like a peg cutter? That’s a pretty clever idea, I’d never have thought of that. Ill have to give that a try too. Thanks again guys for the ideas.

Thats correct John. Just like core drilling only on a smaller scale.

K&G supply has epoxy coloring in powder form really cheap. They are good people to deal with and very fast shippers.

They also are good to deal with on other things.
