how to measure blade length?

The stats on the Gunting list it at 2 7/8 inches. When I hold a ruler up to the blade, with it butted against the scales, it measures just a tad over 3 inches. The "edge" may be 2 7/8", but the "blade" is a little over 3".

IF we ever get to the point (or jurisdiction) where length is important - I can forsee a problem based on that nebulous 3" "rule" (that isn't written down much.) Does anyone have any info on how the LEOs measure blade length? And, exactly how IS blade "length" measured?

TIA

Police can pretty much measure(or not) their own personal way it seems, regardless the particular jurisdiction and it's hard(paper)law. Even though you may win in the end, it'll be a hassle, especially now.

The way I've understood measuring blade length, it is from the upper most edge of the top of the handle to the tip of blade, not edge length. Otherwise what would stop makers from making a 7-8" blade with 2-3" edge at the end?(not that I would have a problem with it myself ). And people who I've heard measuring from the tip of blade down to the pivot well into the handle have no credibility to their reasoning.
