Hello all. I live in michigan and the law here is that my folding knife has to be 3 inches or less. I currently edc a small sebenza. I'm looking to by a strider. The question I have is that a SNG has a blade legnth of 3 1/2 inches but a finger groove and a cutting edge of 2.85 or so. Does any body know if the blade length is meaured by the whole tang opened or the just the cutting edge? The answer's will make my deciesion between a PT or SNG. Thanks everybody!

I dont know what it is officially, But most cops will just measure from the end of the handle to the tip of the blade, even if the first half inch of the blade isnt sharpend

I would saw off the sharp end and drill a hole in it and the stub and have em in two pieces wit a wire between em so it wud be in yer pocket when ya pull out da stub and...and....and....

Oh this is stoopit ain't it?

It is the amount it would penetrate, so from the tip until it reached something to stop it. That is the guard on a fixed blade, or the handle on a folder.

Done any other way, do you think you could have a knife with 8" of steel protruding from the handle, with only the end 1" sharpened on both sides, and claim it had a 1" blade?

I understand that but the blade on a strider has a groove for your finger when you hold it? doesn't that make a difference?

In my view no, because it is still part of the blade and not part of the handle. Plus, you can move you finger from the blade to the grip for a 4 finger hold.

If it is this one, from the pointy shiny bit to the green bit. :) Even their own advertising says 3.5", so there is no way you will ever win your case I am afraid.
