how much do i need to dilute my ferric chloride if i got 99.9% pure reagent? got this stuff off of amazon from Loudwolf bottle says 99.9% pure reagent powderidk if its actually different or not from the 40% liquid, any help mucho appreciated!

Read the instructions?

Some FeCl3 doesn't need to be diluted at all if it is liquid, and the instructions should specify the dilution for powder.

didn't come with any

I find that hard to believe that any hazardous chemical has no instructions.

The instructions are below:

You got an 8oz container of pure powder?
That makes 2 liters of equivalent strength to the 40% liquid. Then you still want to dilute 3 or 4 times for etching damascus.
I mixed mine slowly in a fume hood, so be careful.

If you didn't do stoichiometry in Chemistry, or didn't take Chemistry, then look up the chemical for proportions and more importantly the precautions. I wouldn't mix a chemical like that without goggles with a seal ( not just safety glasses) a proper respirator, and skin coverings. Have running water on hand to flush accidental skin contact, watch for transfer to your PPE and clean it before taking it off . A fume hood and adequate ventilation would be ideal too. Concentrated strong acids and bases are dangerous, you get some in your nasal passages or lungs and it could be hospital time. I saw a guy get a nose full of HCl vapor and his nostrils just poured out blood. Treat chems as carefully as you would a table saw.
