How to open/close the compression lock (video)

I've noticed a few posts asking if it's easy to operate the compression lock so I made a video demonstrating how I do it.

I love the compression lock + spydie hole combination because you can open and close it many ways (e.g. more than a liner lock).

There are probably other ways of using the lock not demonstrated in the video. Oh, and I am not responsible for any cuts or lost fingers ;)

Awesome. I've spent all week deciding on whether or not to get the paramilitary and you made it a lot easier. I'll order it wednes. Nice skills, can't wait to start learning some. I've been meaning to make a short vid of some unique axis lock tricks too.

That's no good..... I've been drooling over a Para for a few months now and that makes me want it even more. :p :D As much as I've been trying to diversify my collection/accumulation, I always seem to keep throwing more $$$ at Spyderco. Thanks for the vid BTW

That's about all there is too it. I have no idea why someone would find it hard to close the compression lock, or a liner lock for that matter, right or left handed.

It's just as easy to close the compression lock with the knife upside down as well, right or left handed. Maybe even easier.

For closing with the left hand, I just use the index finger to completely close from the back of the blade, instead of switching to the thumb for the completion.

Very nice video, and should be quite a help to those unfamiliar with the lock.

Great video! :)

The easiest way for me is to press the lock release with my middle finger, swing the blade down with my index finger, then close it the rest of the way with my thumb.

Was somebody vacuuming when you filmed that?

Cool video, i've never owned a compression lock, but that really makes me want a paramilitary.

No, my dad's camera just records with that annoying static and I don't know how to fix it :o

And the paramilitary is my favorite knife so far. It comes closest to being 'the' knife for me.

Can't WAIT to get mine. Especially now that I know I can play with it as well as use it....

does the para have steel liners at all?

Damn-it's on his site-Michael winslow (the guy from Police academy) had a skit in PA 3 or 4 where he does all of this crazy MA, and then tells the students,"now, practice".

Finally, somebody knows how to operate a compression lock. I have never understood what's so difficult about them either. They are sometimes a bit sticky, but otherwise, they rock!

I've always operated my compression locks with two hands. I am now inspired to learn at least one-hand opening and closing method. Fortunately, I have a Gunting trainer to practice with :p .

Please do! I'm getting my first axis, a 940 soon.

Awesome video, I'm going to try some of those openings and closings with my Chinook II.

NO! I've been good at trying not to spend money on knives lately, but after watching that my will power is fading! :)

Dude, just get a balisong already.

and thanks a lot, now I need to spend another hundred and some bucks on a new knife.
