Hey everyone - I'm sure this has been asked before so excuse my ignorance. :o The search function isn't available to me as I'm a non paying member (yet). I was wondering what steps to take in order to polish a clip on a Delica 4, which as many of you already know is caoted in a black paint or oxidized finish. Thank guys!

Depends on what type of finish you want. If you want sort of a brushed finish go to auto zone and buy some 800 grit auto sand paper and then just start rubbing it in the direction you want the "Grain" to go. It will eat off the finish and leave the metal bright a shiney with a satin grain to it.

If you want it mirror polished take a dremel tool with felt polishing wheels and some flitz metal polsih and have at it. It'll be a bright plush polish when you're done. Careful with this method it will heat up. Not enough to hurt the metal I would say, but it will get to hot to hold. I like to keep a little carborator cleaner at my bench so when it gets hot... I just spritz it with that and it cools it right down and blasts away any debris.

The Dremel steel wire wheels will leave sort of a cloudy polsih to it. Kinda neat but not for everyone.

You can get a clip glowing red and it won't hurt it for what it needs to do. You can also put the clip in some paint stripper to save a little time if you have some on hand.

A good movie and a couple different grits of sandpaper. The higher you go, the smoother the polish will be. Go to 2k-3k wet / dry and you can have a mirror polished clip. Stop at about 400 and get a nice brushed finish.

Paint stripper and a buffing wheel with fine compound, no sandpaper needed.
