i've been using aa fixed blade with micarta slabs a lot lately and have noticed that the pins are starting to rust from my sweat. what can i do to prevent the corrosion keeping in mind that i have to hold the handles? i can't put something too oily or smelly on it, or is that my only option?

Perhaps wax....Ren Wax has often been mentioned as a blade and handle protective on various forums. Even a light coating of whatever wax you have may suffice.

what about militec or tuf glide on the handle? does anybody have experience with putting this stuff on the pins?

Militech protects metals pretty well, I use it on my AFCK's liners to keep them from corroding.

The only drawback is it tends to smell funny when you first put it on.

cyanoacrylate works best from my own experience. AKA superglue.

Rub it on with your finger. (quickly) then take it off your finger with acetone.

Heat the area you covered with the superglue on low with a blow dryer, then you can buff it on cloth wheel using green rouge after it sets. Then use WD40 to remove the rouge marks by rubbing it in with your finger again. In the end this should leave a nice glass like finish over the rivets, or pins or whatever you cover with it.

This is great for silver inlays that will tarnish. It seals them from oxidizing. Also works great to keep brass from tarnishing. It will eventually wear off but it is easy to reapply just repeat the above. It lasts longer than anything else I've tried.

Actually you can coat the whole handle this way but on Micarta it isn't necessary like it is to seal wood. Oupa (AKA Dirk Potgieter) at http://www.knifeforums.com/ubbthreads/postlist.php?Cat=&Board=UBB51 first taught me this as he does this with most all his wooden handles he does on knives he restores or makes.
