How to prevent emerson cqc's blade from falling out in my pocket if not clipped?

I recently purchased a cqc 8 and it's a great knife. I usually have it in my front jean pocket and it's not clipped to my pants. Every day, the blade will fall out 1/4th of an inch from me moving around. So when I stick my hands into my pocket, I can feel the blade has fallen out. If I tighten the tension screw, will this solve my problem? Do you guys have this problem with the cqc series if it's not clipped to your pants? Are there any other solutions? Can't wait to purchase another cqc.

welcome to the forums. First it definately sounds like you pivot screw could you a slight tighten. But the thing is the blade shouldnt open while its in your pocket. thats why it has a detent to keep it from happeneing. If when you open the knife there is a slight grab and then it pulls open the detent is engaging properly. If the blade swings out freely or with no effort it sounds like a faulty knife. If you do tighten your pivot screw do it in a tiny increments to give the blade more grab when opening. Hope that helps.

Welcome to Bladeforums!

How do you have the knife oriented in your pocket? If the blade is opening agains tthe seam of your pocket, that should keep it from opening out. Also, you may want it tip down as long as it's not clipped to the pocket.

Knife is oriented the same way as if it were to be clipped. Blade is still opening against the inseam, which makes me wonder if the screw is loose or if it's defective.

Well, you can check the screw tension easily enough. Tighten it down a bit, see if that works, and check that it isn't so tight that it won't open by waving it.

good luck with the emerson. i have a cqc myself. you don't want to tighten it too much where the wave feature will be rendered inoperable.

the whole thing can be rendered inoperable. tighten too much and you'll need pliers to open it.

i find i have to check the pivot screws on my emersons from time to time. but they have all been taken apart and cleaned, so the pivot screws are a bit looser than is normal.

find a place with the screw where there is minimal to no blade play, but the blade is still easily deployable. drop a little loctite on the screw and replace. that way it stays in the same place, and you shouldnt have your blade opening without you intending to do so.

it has to be tip up if waved, FWIW i carry all my emersons tip up with no probs at all, waved or not.

either the pivot is too loose or the detent isnt working right, if the detent isnt working right ya will have to send it to EKI for repair. if the pivot is loose simply tighten it up some, certainly no need to get it so tight ya cant wave it lol, none of mine are like that.

it shouldnt do this.
