How to prevent tang rust

Hey all, one more question and I should be set for the most part on my first knife build.

I know that a bit of rust shows use and character but I thought I would ask because I would rather have this knife take a beating and keep on shining.

I wanted to leave my scales removable which means that water will definitely be able to get under them in various ways. Of course I can remove them, dry them out and oil the tang but this might not always be an option if I am out in the bush and don't have tools, oil, etc.

I was looking for ideas to fix this issue but I didn't find anything solid outside of sending the knife out for certain coatings.

What I am wondering is could I use a clear coat paint or possibly a polyurethane (or some other sealing epoxy) dip of the tang? Maybe I shouldn't even worry about it.

Maybe sandwich a layer of thin neoprene rubber between the tang and scales, kinda like a liner but more like a gasket. Maybe slather some vaseline or cosmoline or other heavy grease on the tang before cinching down the scales? I would keep a tool to remove the scales in my kit when out in the woods. Then you can remove the scales, dry and oil the tang and replace the scales.

"ditto" the stainless steel recommendation.

If you really are worried that you won't do proper maintenance after coming home, you could Ceracoat the blade and tang.
