How to proceed? (Broken pocket clip screw on Cold Steel SR1)

I'm curious how you folks would handle the situation I've found myself in. I purchased a brand new SR1 and went ahead to remove the pocket clip. As I was doing so, one of the clip screws broke. The threaded portion remains inside the hole and the screw head is long gone. I don't have equipment to tap or drill out what remains of the screw, and I'm told the clip screws go all the way into the liners of the knife so I imagine they're important for structural integrity.

I'm at a loss. Fortunately I have more than one knife, but I was hoping to rotate this green beast into the pocket soon. I appreciate whatever input comes back my way. Cheers folks!

Does CS have good customer service? If you don't know what you are doing then I would not mess with it and send to CS. These things have a way of ending up worse than you started.

From what I've heard, Cold Steel's customer service has taken a hit since GSM bought them out. Still, I've sent an email and I'm hopeful.
Maybe take the clip side scale off and unscrew the remaining part of the screw from the liner?
The broken portion is still screwed into the liner through the scale. I managed to break off maybe 30% of it initially.
Looking at CS website pix, the 3 screws holding the clip also hold the scale to the liner.
That is correct! Not ideal in this situation.

So far as I've heard on the Cold Steel sub forum , I don't believe GSM has any provision to repair or even supply common parts .

They may, or may not , honor warranty by replacement . But I think that's their only option .

If someone has had a differing experience , I'd like to know about it . Please . :(

Just curious : Did you apply some heat to those screw heads , before removal ?

Soldering iron tip works great ! Don't overdo it .

as i think ya know Doc.....gsm warranty is a waste of time. I did a thread on it in cold steel forum. think you even participated on it, Doc. they wouldn't do anything on two defective knives. lots of promises no results. no replacements. no repair. made me send in pictures of the receipts. said they had no stock to replace them. stuff like that. I finally gave up. it was real effort and days of trying for nothing. I am not a gsm fan at all. I see nowadays buying a cold steel under gsm as a don't expect warranty work or replacement. just buy another..and use that one for parts.

Yes to all that . I was just hoping that GSM, just possibly had straightened up . 🤨

I still buy select, old school models of Cold Steel, but don't expect anything from GSM customer service .

Anything defective , I would return to seller .

I'd be a cheapskate regardless , but lack of customer service , significantly detracts from any desire to risk big money, in their products . 😒

Damn, I would hate for this to happen to myself and since you know there's basically no warranty service or parts, have you taken it apart yet.

Any pics?

Good luck on getting a new clip. I broke mine and have emailed them many times to try and get another clip. I won't buy anything else from them.
