How to put a knife shield back in

Hello all. I've been reading bladeforums since I took an interest in traditional slip joints late last year. Anyway, yesterday for my 21st birthday my mom bought me a Case Pocket Worn Red Bone Medium Stockman (3 3/8"). And a case of beer. In a foolish act of drunken stupidity, I dropped it. The shield popped right out, and I found it, but I don't know what to use to glue it back in. Will crazy glue work? If not then what should I use? Thanks in advance. -The new Fish.

Hi and welcome this seems to be happening a lot lately just make sure its clean the shield and were it goes on the handle and superglue will work i have used silicon and also gorilla glue also good luck

Crazy glue should work just fine. I believe I used Gorilla Glue when one of my shields fell out. Worked so well I couldn't even tell you which knife it was...

2 ton epoxy would also do a job. So would jb weld.

I have used Gorilla glue, but you need to be careful, because it expands.

Glue - for sure!

But I would also recommend to use some sandpaper and try to remove the rest of the glue out of the bone (and the shield as well). Because, it would be lifted up when adding more glue. It would also cause, that the surface is getting rougher. So there´s more that the glue would held up.

Just my thoughts!

As frustrating as it is to see a shield just 'drop out' of a handle, it's almost as easy and quick to fix it. I used a gel-type CA glue (superglue) to put a shield back in mine. I like the gel, because it's less likely to run/seep into other places where you don't want it. It's fast, easy and I've never had any issues since.

Edit:
An important note: Just remember not to put the shield in upside down (it's been done). ;)

Thanks guys. I did use sandpaper before I got a chance to read Humppa's post. It's as good (technically better than) new. Also, I've read posts by all but one of you before. It's nice to finally meet you all.

I had an Old Timer that the shield wouldn't stay in for anything, so I just filled the gap with superglue. I reaffixed my mini trapper's shield using Loctite brand superglue, worked fantastically.
