I managed to make my sog flash II get a somewhat mirror edge but its not that reflective, i used 2000 grit sand paper. I cannot find and micron paste anywhere does anyone know where to get hold of one from?

and is it even possible to get a mirrors edge on 8cr13mov steel or am i just wasting my time.

Also if you guys have pics on mirror edges or blades it would be helpful for me to look at them! :D

I use auto finishing compound on my home made leather strop. I think it is 3000 grit. It works great for me, though i have never compared it to the results of a dedicated stropping compound.

Any steel will mirror polish with the correct abrasive, 2k is still fairly coarse when trying to mirror polish. A quick and cheap way from 2k would be DMT 3 pack of paste on balsa or MDF, balsa for leather like feel and MDF for a stone like feel.

By the finish of 1 micron you will have your mirror :)

for less than $100. you can get a set of wheels that will sharpen any steel in a few minutes compared to several minutes to hours by hand. i have a set of wheels that are going on 19 years old and still going.

Where could you post a link?

here is the manufacturers website http://www.sharpeningwheels.com/ but you can order or pick up a set at any woodcraft store or order them through grizzly imports. check out the vids on my website of knives i sharpened in action. here is one that amazes a lot of people who actually see me do this http://knifetests.com/kII.html

WOOWOW there is a store next to my house about 5 miles away!

is this the whole kit

thats it. if you can find a variable speed motor or a 1/2 hp motor that runs 1725 rpm get that. with the 1/2 hp motor you'll have to get an arbor so you can attach the wheel to the shaft but you can find them at jantz supply. they sell wheels too but they are cheap recycled paper and are junk. i have a set that i wish i never bought but i know better now.
yesterday my 1 1/4" wide 10" wheel came in. i cant wait to give it a try on a long machete. it should make a difference when sharpening anything over a few feet long but i'll find out for sure.
