Well rec. a SOFCK tanto pe nib just the other day. The only EKI I have ever owned where I was totally pleased with the edge out the box. Nice and sharp and very toothy. It will cut hand held bubble wrap easily. Which is no mean feat if you haven't tried it.

So this leads me to my D2 710. Extremely sharp knife that will cleanly shave hair. But it won't cut the bubble wrap for crap when holding it in my hand as the SOFCK does. I guess I am just looking for the bite that the tanto has.

I have used my Lansky on it so it is sharp as hell. I have used a hand held diamond stone coarse grit on it at a slightly steeper angle to try and get that bite but it just ain't doin it. Any help would be appreciated. Oh yea one more thing, the SOFCK just about blows out of the water any other EKI I have currently or have owned in the past.:D keepem sharp

Try a dowel wrapped in a coarse grit of wet/dry sandpaper. Hone it like you were steeling a knife on a chefs steel. Works great on my 710 M2HS.

I bought a Spyderco replacement sharpmaker triangle in the fine grit, and it leaves a great edge on my 710 in D2. For about $13 even if you don't like it it isn't going to hurt too much, IMHO it's a great general grit for any knife, not the best but a good general purpose grit.

The grey rods on my SM leave a razor sharp, but very "toothy" edge on my 7210 D2.:)
