I have no trouble getting it to ramp up, but how do you program it to ramp down??? The instructions are no help...
The controller on mine is the set pro.

i havent done it yet but i thought it was just like ramping up but you have to start from the high temp then set lower temp and then speed to ramp down
i do not think you can ramp down say faster then 500 per hour
but for an anneal say 25 per hour is very do able
i think my kiln with the door shut cools from 2000 to about 200 over the span of like 7 hours it might be faster tho because i shut things down and go to bed i can temper first thing in the morning
hope this helps if not let me know and we can work on it cause i ll be needing to anneal sooner or later

I also have the Set Pro. Just do it like you think you should! Set the ramp temp degrees/hour and the target temperature! Just like going up.
If you want it to cool as fast as possible, set "full" on the ramp temp.
When I do my spherodizing anneal, I want to cool as fast as possible from 1375 to 1300, so I set the ramp at "full". Then I go 10 degress per hour to 1200. So, the oven actually needs to cycle heat to keep from cooling faster than that!
Just set it the same way as going up.

The instructions you got with the SetPro say it best. "It's sure not a refrigerator"

It can slow cooling rate, by occasional addition of heat - but there is nothing it can do to speed cooling.

Rob!

Who said anything about speeding cooling? That's the opposite of what I want.
So is there a separate setting for the down ramp temp? I thought from reading the instructions that setting the up rate controls the down also. Maybe I should reread the manual, but it sure didn't make sense before.

Just set the ramp! If you want it to cool down at 20 degrees per hour, set
"20" in the ramp segment and the target temp! The oven will cycle heat to slow the cooling at that rate.
Quite honestly, I don't remember this in the manual. It may be in there, but i just programmed it the way I needed it to operate.
Same way as going up.
Apparently, you have already attained your upper heat. Just go to your next segment, program in your ramp degrees/hour, and the temp you want to get to.
Just like ramping up. The only difference is that your target temperature is LOWER! I didn't even suggest above that you could speed cooling, I said cool "as fast as possible", which would mean the heating cycle is simply off.
Just program like you would if you were going up and you'll be ok.

Eureka!! That's the part I was missing. Thanks! I'll try that and see if it works.
