How to re-attach insert on Stretch

Hey guys, I have been carrying my Spyderco Stretch for about a week now. I like the knife a lot due to how thin it is. It carries very well. I like the krayton (sp?) Inserts too but I went to pull it out of my pocket just now and I felt the insert start to roll away from the knife.

I don't want to bother sending it in to Spyderco to have it repaired if I can just due it myself. What can I use to re-attach the insert without ruining them?

Thanks in advance!

No sure how well superglue would work on rubber either. Epoxy might be a better choice, but you'd need to be very careful not to have any excess to weep out. I'm sure 3M makes some specialized industrial adhesives that would be better, but they may not be available in consumer size packaging.

Rubber cement would work well. Apply some to insert and some to knife and put something between the two to hold them apart and allow to dry but not really touch the glue. Then press them together and put a weight that will press on insert and let it sit a couple hours to make sure it dries and bonds good.

Thanks for the recommendations guys. I picked up some rubber cement and contact cement. Going to try the rubber cement first. I think I will go ahead and pull the other side off too and try to clean up both sides and re-attach them.

I will update the thread on my success or failure.....

Well my first attempt was a failure. I tried to use rubber cement but I think it was too thick. It raised the insert too high and even after leaving two clamps on it for over 24 hours it still started to peel away. I tried to put as thin of a later as possible but no luck.

Going to clean it up again and try a different adhesive. I think I might rough up the underside of the insert to help it adhere.

Wish me luck!

If you use contact cement, clean both sides. Roughing the surfaces is a good idea too. Use alcohol or similar to clean. Coat both surfaces with a thin layer of cement. Keep them apart until they are no longer tacky. Press them together. You might lay a heavy object on the knife for a few hours. Done.
