This goes with the thread about favorite kami.

Is there a thread about how to tell which kami made which khukuri? I can't read the marks.

Thanks

Ice

Thanks Hamon. The L.B. indicates my khukuri was made by Bura. I am indeed lucky to have such a beautiful tool made by the Royal Kami himself. And you're right, the rest is fascinating reading also.

Does St. Karka have a marking that he uses? If so, what does it look like?
I have khuks by Sher, Kumar, Bura and Amtrak....

Nope. Sgt. Karka has no markings at all. I think he's either working out of another shop or is part time at Birghorkha. The sheaths are different too. Which leads me to believe he's not on BG staff.

I'm guessing though.

My new Bura has LB, a crescent, and another marking I don't know. It's a circle with 4 pairs of 2 paralell lines coming off of it at compass points. Like some 8-ray, 4-point sun. Dunno what that is...

Didn't we all decide that the sun was a marker used for those made while the the kami's were on vacation in Arizona?

Nam, Nasty came to my home and was adoptred as a nephew.:D Now do you still think, "That explains it!" is really so? :p

Actually no one knows what the mark is, just that it's similar to some marks found in use in New Mexico, and Arizona.;)

I'd hoped my sarcasm was evident. Damned lack of body language... :D

So, you're saying that Nepal is really in Arizona?

Of course, I also learned here that Reno is the capital of Nepal.

God, I need to brush up on my geography! :D :D

No, you're just confoosed is all.:grumpy: Arizona may be deep enough but it ain't high enough. Er wait! Maybe if you put the base of the Himalayans in the bottom of the Grand Canyon?

Sgt. Karka is not a member of the BirGorkha staff but I wish he was. In fact, I'm not even sure if he is making the knives he brings over to Pala. They could be made by kamis who do work for Sgt. Karka and all he does is simply inspect and cull. But they are fine knives regardless of who makes them. I sound just like the kamis. I've been at this too long.

Hayv! Just wish the BirGhorka kamis would go back to the traditional style bolster without cho creep.
I know they're still khukuris but they just look funny/strange.

Edit:
I would sure like to be able to really communicate and talk with the kamis for a few hours just to find out how and what they think about us Americans.
From the cho creep and habaki bolsters it seems they think we're a bunch of crazy ham handed giants without a lick of common sense! :D
