How to remove Kydex scratches?

I tried searching but I think my search-foo is weak tonight.

I wanted to find out what you experts and more experienced Hogs use to buff out the scratches on satin finished blades that are caused by Kydex sheaths. I know Busse's are made to be used but most of us have knives that are strictly collectors and I would hate to mess up a $1000 knife trying to buff out a little rub mark.

So tell me am I being overly anal about it or are those fine scratches you can only see at the right angle in the right light not a big deal?

flitz works well for surface scratches.

Kydex sheaths really should not rub the blade. It should be handle retention only. You may consider sending it back to the maker to be fitted correctly.

Sometimes a little something gets in there, i.e. dust, and puts little micro scratches on the blade. That's what I'm referring to.

I have not used flitz. Are we talking hand buffing or using a wheel of some sort?

I've heard you can use a pop-sickle stick and some flitz like kdstrick suggested to get those pesky scratches out. I beleive they suggested working with the grind lines.

I read this in another post here on bladeforums mind you, I've never tried it. The idea seems sound to me though.

Hope this helps,

Les.

Interesting method.

Anybody have experience with this process.

In the mean time I am searching flitz.

your local automotive store should carry Flitz. Leather sheaths will get rid of the kydex scuffs:p

I use FLITZ a lot, but its a very mild polishing agent - mostly a protectant. For scratches
on satin blades, I use MOTHERS Mag & Alum Polish. It can not be used on Nickel or Blued guns - Read the label! For knife blades and mag and alum wheels, its great.

My FBMLE had a few kydex sheath scratches. I removed them with a green scouring pad going with the grind lines and I made a leather sheath for it. :)
